How can we maintain the Peace that Passes all Understanding?

This is a repost from 9-9-2008 When one works with four year olds there is never any down time. It really pays to stay a step or two ahead of them. This can be extremely tiring and mind boggling too.
I was really stressed after spending seven hours dealing with non-stop behavior issues. All the while trying to actually get some teaching done. Never mind the personal issue I have going on in my family.

I prayed about the bad attitude I had and the way I was feeling. I prayed for God to please help me be the light to those children that He wanted me to be.
I felt better as I went to bed but I was still feeling bad about the ugly feeling I had and what it might have done to the children.
God spoke to me from His word the next morning when I opened my Bible to read scripture and pray for two High School students. I participate in Wall of Prayer where I read a scripture and pray for two High School students everyday to keep them covered in prayer.
The scripture was Psalm 19:14
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer."
This spoke to my heart to be sure to control the words and the tone of the words that come out of my mouth because they reflect the meditation of my heart. I must control them so they will be acceptable in the sight of the Almighty God whom I choose to serve.
He is my Rock and my Redeemer whom I thank daily.
Until next time think about Romans 8:28 "We know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who are called according to His purpose.

Don't Let Your Light Blow Out

Photo as well as content is copyrighted by Shelia Holmes

God will see us through anything and everything.
He wants us to come through the storm with our light shinning.
Trust God to help us not let our light blow out.
Then we will not go through the storm in darkness.
God will be our light and we will be a light to others for God.

ISAIAH 55:8-9 (NASB,Tecarta)
"For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways," declares the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher that your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.

El Roi The God Who Sees

This picture was taken in Zambia as we traveled through the mountains.
Copyrighted by Shelia Holmes

El Roi is commonly translated as
"The God Who Sees".
El Roi is only used one time in the Bible, in Genesis 16:13

How many times do we need to hear it to realize that God sees everything?
Genesis 16:9 Then the angel of the LORD said to her, "Return to your mistress,
and submit yourself to her authority. " Moreover, the angel of the LORD said to her,
"I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too many to count."

Genesis 16: 13
Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, "You are a God who sees." for she said,  "Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him?"
This was Hagar's response after she encountered the Angel of the LORD.

Hagar,  the maidservant of Sarai, had run away because she was being mistreated by Saria.
Do we need to return to something that we have run away from?
God--El Roi sees everything.  He will not leave us alone. He will provide exactly what we need. Exactly when we need it.

Make it a Romans 8:28 day.
Blessings.

Where Does the Peace that Passes all Understanding Come From?

This was originially posted in  August 10, 2008
Modified 2-2012

This life deals us misery.
We have unseen things coming at us from every angle.
How do we deal with this?
How do we survive seeing a child deal with a drug addiction for years?
How do we deal with the death of our 22 year old brother when we are just 25?
How do we deal with the loss of grandparents and parents through death?
How do we deal with personal illness, the illness of a spouse, a child or a parent?
How do we deal with watching our dad slip away with Alzheimer's?
How do we deal with depression or other mental illness of our own or a loved one?
The list goes on and on....the loss of a job, no income, numerous handicaps,
lack of family support, loss of friends, natural disaster, you fill in the blank.
A long time ago I discovered;
Romans 8:28 "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good  to those who love God, and are called according to His purpose."
This was the first time that bad made sense to me.
I began to accept that God is in control.
I believe His promises to cause everything to work together for good to those who love Him.
It is my job to love Him and do what He ask of me so He can cause everything to work for good  in my life.
He promises us that He will give us the Peace that Passes all Comprehension.
Philippians 4:7 "And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
I am standing on His promises.
How about you?

Happy Love Day The Greatest Valentine of All Time John 3:16

Matthew 22:37-39
And He said to him, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOU SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND."
This is the great and foremost commandment.
The second is like it., 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'
John 3:16  "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

There is An Appointed Time for Everything Ecclesiastes 3

Just a reminder that Spring will be here soon!!!
Genesis 1:14
Then God(*ELOHIM) said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night,
and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;
Galatians 4:10
You observe days and months and seasons and years.
Psalm 104:19
He made the moon for the seasons; The sun knows the place of its setting.

We have had an awful draught this year.
The Summer looked like the dead of Winter.
The Winter looks a little like Spring with the green Winter grass that came up after a 2" rain.
The 80 degree Winter days made us think that it was Spring, until a cold front came down and reminded us it is still Winter for awhile longer.
That is okay,  because we serve the maker of the Seasons and we are Thankful for them however they come to us.

Acts 14:17
...in that He did good and gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons,
satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.
Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8
There is an appointed time for everything.
And there is a time for every event under heaven-
A time to give birth and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
A time to search and a time to give up as lost;
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear apart and a time to sew together;
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:11
He has made everything appropriate in its time
He has also set eternity in their heart,
yet so that man will not find out the work
which God has done from the beginning even to the end.
Romans 11: 33
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!

ELOHIM: The Hebrew word that means   Creator.
In  Genesis 1:1 and following we read the story of all creation.
It gives us answers as to why we are here.
Also read Psalm 139
and it will tell you how God knew you before you were even
formed in your mother's womb.
It tells you why you are here. God created you and He wanted you here.

Saturday-Sweet Bread of Kindness Sunday The Lord's Day

   Embroidery work by Shelia Holmes Pattern by Heart Strings Embroidery
Saturday - Cooking Day
Help me, my Savior, to brew a big kettle of brotherly love
and serve it with clean, sweet bread of human kindness.

John 21: 17
He(Jesus) said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?"
Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, " Do you love Me?"
And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You"
Jesus said to him, "Tend My sheep."

2 Peter 1: 2-8
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;
seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness,
through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises,
so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith
supply moral excellence, and in you moral excellence,  knowledge, and in your knowledge,
self-control, and in you self-control,  perseverance, and in your perseverance,
godliness, and in your godliness,  brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.
For if these qualities are yours and are increasing,  they render you neither useless nor unfruitful
in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Titus 3: 4-6
But when the kindness of God our Savior
 and His love for mankind appeared,
He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness,
but according to His mercy,  by the washing
 ( baptism-John 3:5,1 Peter 3:21, Acts 2:28,   1 Corinthians 6:11
of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
Sunday - The Lord's Day
1 Corinthians 11: 23-32
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you,
that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread;
and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,
"This is My Body, which is for you;
do this in remembrance of Me."
In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying,
"This cup is the new covenant in My blood;
do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.'"
Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner,
shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.
But a man must examine himself, and in so doing
he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
For he who eats and drinks,
 eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the
body rightly.
For this reason many among you are weak and sick,
and a number sleep.
But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.
But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord
so that we will not be condemned along with the world.

Friday Cleaning the Secret Corners of my Heart

Friday - Cleaning
Lord Jesus, help me to dust out all the many faults I have been
hiding in the secret corners of my heart.

Psalm 51:10-13
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your Holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful
and righteous to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all sin.

2 Corinthians 7:1
Therefore, having these promises,
beloved, let us cleanse ourselves
from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting
holiness in the fear of God.

Hebrews 10:22
Let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience
and our bodies washed with pure water.
